SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY AND VOLUNTARY GROUPS

1pm F2 Centre, TUES 17th October 2023

Community and Voluntary Groups in this area are fighting for better pay and conditions.  We are looking for your support from October 17th for this when some project staff will be on STRIKE.

Since 2010 (after the banking crisis) funding to community groups was cut.   This meant that wages, programme money, pension support were cut.   THIS FUNDING HAS NOT BEEN RESTORED SINCE THEN.  Increases in line with the Cost of Living has also not been paid by the funders.

The funders of the Community & Voluntary sector are Government Departments.

Workers who are employed in agencies working with and supporting vulnerable people are earning SUBSTANTIALLY less than what the equivalent public sector employees earn and don’t enjoy decent working conditions with pay scales, increments, cost of living increases, sick pay and proper pensions.   Community, Youth and Care workers employed by voluntary agencies deserve THE SAME as public sector workers.

For too long Ireland has operated a model whereby charities and voluntary agencies are being exploited by the state while doing valuable work.

Community, Youth and care work should be fully recognised and integrated into the public sector and workers should be paid properly with decent salaries and decent conditions.
